Before taking this course, I knew very little 
about ProTactile and Backchanneling. As many 
DeafBlind individuals came and presented 
to us this term, I loved hearing all the 
stories and experiences of different DeafBlind 
people, but I was also fascinated by the 
individual standing behind them giving them 
feedback. I did not realize that you could 
give such detailed feedback that way to a 
Deafblind individual about their environment 
such as laughter and attentiveness of their 
audience. I enjoyed learning a new way to 
communicate with the DeafBlind community 
that not even many DeafBlind individuals 
know about yet. As I continue to build my 
ProTactile and Backchanneling skills, I hope 
to spread awareness and educate people both 
in the DeafBlind and the Hearing-sighted 
communities. I want to bridge the gap between 
the two worlds and form unity through effective 
communication.
