Hi! We started working on the Audi A6, to make the car a bit more offroad ready.
00:55.2
01:04.0
We started off by putting on a set of 17s with 245/65 brutal offroad tires.
01:04.5
01:10.5
Obviously they couldn't fit in the standard form, we cut the arches to make them fit,
01:11.1
01:19.3
Then we also took out all the fender liners, we also had to hammer it in some places and even had to cut the ends of the sills.
01:19.4
01:26.2
To make it physically fit and for the wheel to be able to turn freely. We haven't tested it yet,
01:26.3
01:32.4
So we'll drive a couple laps around here to test how it works before going on any serious drives.
01:33.0
01:39.1
There are 50mm spacers on each corner, it seems like it will work this way.
01:40.4
01:59.9
Since we are preparing for offroad use, a winch is a must for the car! So in place of the factory aluminum crash bar we put a steel box section and we fabricated a mechanism onto that, which holds our winch and these rollers too!
02:00.5
02:11.8
It came from Titanium, a 5.5 ton one with 24 meters of steel cable, with a remote and there's a killswitch at the front.
02:12.3
02:22.0
We don't have much experience with winches yet, we'll have to try, but I think this will suffice for the kind of terrain we'll dare to take this car to.
02:22.7
02:30.0
Apart from this, another very important aspect of any offroad and rally build is a proper underbody protection, so we took care of that too.
02:30.9
02:41.6
Coming from this box section, that we used to strengthen the front of the car, we came down with 4 bars and then back under the engine with some more box sections,
02:41.7
02:49.3
And we used some diamond shape plate to make a protection for the intercooler, the oil pan and the radiator.
02:49.4
02:54.2
So in theory I'll be safe if I bottom out the car roughly.
02:54.9
03:10.8
If you would like to buy some similar offroad tires, you can do so on our webshop, there'll be a link in the description. From 13" to 18" we have all kinds of different tread patterns, and these are road legal tires. We can ship them to you straight away!
03:13.7
03:21.9
Before we start, let's take a look at a carVertical report as usual. It is about a crash damaged Audi A6.
03:23.4
03:30.1
The vehicle is from California, from there it went to Poland and then from there to Hungary in 2019.
03:32.9
03:49.4
There's nothing noticable about mileage, it is reported to have 107k kms. There is a crash event reported from 2018 in the USA, that's how it got to Poland.
03:50.5
04:00.3
And here's the price, in 2019 it was sold for around 4 million (HUF, ~10k USD/EUR) here in Hungary. A 2013 A6 Audi and here are the photos of the crash.
04:00.4
04:29.5
They were uploaded in '18, the right front got hit quite hard, I see the A-pillar also got pretty beat up, the right front door too. This is a badly crashed car and in theory this car is actively running on Hungarian roads, because here we have a report about an inspection on the car from 2022.

04:40.8
04:43.6
And now, let's go for a... test drive.
04:48.6
04:52.6
As a start, we'll check if there's any rubbing on either of the wheels while driving,
04:52.7
05:00.6
After that we'll go onto our little offroad section here, to see whether if we have any problems under bigger compressions. If there's nothing, we are then going onto the next thing!
05:09.3
05:13.3
Yeah, it's rubbing a lot on the left side. Especially if I put load on that side.
05:18.2
05:20.6
And these tires are really sliperry on concrete.
05:26.8
05:35.8
If I go straight while breaking, it's fine, but if I turn while breaking, it rubs. I don't think it's too bad, but we'll take a look at it soon.
05:40.7
05:53.4
It's not obviously visible where it's rubbing, but I can see here on the tire that it's touching somewhere. We could pretty much cut the whole thing out to not make contact.
05:55.2
05:59.9
But I think it's bearable, so let's see some more offroad kinda tests.
06:43.8
06:50.6
The wheel started making space for itself, we cut too little here.
06:51.0
06:59.9
Well yeah, we could pretty much cut it up to this line here and then we'll put on some offroad wide arches on it.
07:00.4
07:08.4
But we surely have to cut it higher here, despite the fact that we'll lift the car up drastically.
07:09.7
07:13.6
Apart from this, it's all good, the tires grab into the ground hard as soon as I get over the dirt,
07:13.9
07:25.7
That's brutal, I'm looking forward to seeing how it will behave on a proper offroad track, because there is a huge difference especially compared to our previous test where we used tires worn down into slicks.
07:26.4
07:29.3
It'll be fine, we are going to drive a few more laps and it will break in for good.
07:42.1
07:50.7
Since we have the wheels off, I'll say some things about them. During our previous shoot, one of the tires popped off our beautiful 3 spoke 18" wheels,
07:51.1
07:57.9
We looked around at the yard for some replacements and luckily we found a full set of 17" OEM Audi rims.
07:58.0
08:05.7
They had factory paint, we put these tires on, it looked brutal, but the factory silver color didn't match the look,
08:05.8
08:14.5
We thought we'd paint them black but we already had the tires on, they are not easy to put on, so that's where this sprayable rubber comes into play.
08:15.3
08:26.5
It is from Foliatec, sold by raceshop. This package is enough for a whole set of wheels, consists of 2 spray cans and a full set of these cards.
08:26.6
08:40.5
You can put them around the bead and you're done masking the tires. There is a de-greaser napkin too so pretty much everything and also a paper to cover the valves.
08:40.6
08:53.4
It is a complete package and in about an hour without any preparation you can paint the wheels and later if you get bored of it, you can peel it off and get the stock finish back.
08:53.5
09:02.5
So far it worked out for us especially because of how little effort it took to get here, we'll see how durable it will be, but the surface turned out very nice.
09:02.6
09:09.4
You can order them from raceshop, use the 'oliveramon' coupon code to get a discount on these and everything else.
09:10.5
09:16.4
We have some similar other products, for wheels, brake calipers and various other products as well.
09:16.9
09:24.9
We will raffle them on instagram, so follow me there if you haven't already and you can take part in this giveaway within the next few days.
09:33.2
09:43.7
We cut a few more centimeters out of the aluminum fenders, this has to be enough. We'll go on a test drive and if it's good, we're done for today!
10:01.5
10:12.2
Now comes the first test of the winch, we'll hook it to the C600 in which I'll do a burnout, without braking, the winch is going to hold it back.
10:12.3
10:23.6
The goal of the test is to see if the winch can pull the C600 closer to the Audi while the C600 is trying to go forward, flatout in second gear.
11:39.3
11:48.3
Now comes the second test, we hang the car there and the question is if the winch can lift the front wheels off the ground.
12:14.8
12:16.3
I guess we can say it's okay.
12:17.9
12:24.6
The winch has obviously passed the test, I don't think we have to put it through any more serious tests, so the winch is ready!
12:42.1
12:54.9
That's it for today, the car is almost ready, we still have some things to do. It will take us about another week to button it up for the offroad shoot, but I think it will be very good.
