We have an important guest with us today to talk about our Profile of a Learner guiding document, next!
00:05.2
00:09.8
00:09.8
00:14.1
I mentioned last week that the Board of Trustees approved the guiding documents that provide the support...
00:14.1
00:19.7
...for the shared vision of every student in Klein ISD entering with a promise and exiting with a purpose.
00:19.7
00:23.3
This week, we'll take a closer look at the Klein ISD Profile of a Learner.
00:23.3
00:26.3
Because students are at the center of all that we do...
00:26.3
00:32.0
...defining what we want each student to know and be able to do is critical to their...and our...success.
00:32.0
00:38.1
A Klein ISD learner is a Pathway Explorer, an Equipped Scholar, a Values-Driven Leader and a Forever Learner.
00:38.1
00:43.8
Each of these strands are further clarified, so I wanted you to hear from a current Klein ISD learner.
00:43.8
00:48.7
Join me in welcoming Ian Tonroy, who's currently a senior at Klein High School.
00:48.7
00:51.6
Ian, welcome to 90 Seconds news. Glad to have you here.
00:51.6
00:55.0
Now Ian, you know we're taking a deeper dive into the Profile of a Learner.
00:55.0
00:57.5
And what that looks like. And we thought that it would be great to hear from a student.
00:57.5
01:01.4
About how it kind of fits in. So Ian, what are your plans next year?
01:01.4
01:07.3
(Ian) Well I'm really happy and fortunate to be going to Texas A&M University next year.
01:07.3
01:12.5
(Bret) Awesome. (Ian) And I believe I will be in the course study area of Political Science.
01:12.6
01:15.0
(Bret) Political Science at A&M, that's very exciting.
01:15.1
01:23.3
So as we think about this notion as you're exiting our system...we talk about 4 particular strands in that Profile of a Learner.
01:23.3
01:26.1
And the first one we talk about is Pathway Explorer.
01:26.1
01:30.3
And with Pathway Explorer, we talk about someone who is relentlessly pursuing excellence.
01:30.3
01:32.2
So when you think about that, what comes to mind?
01:32.2
01:37.6
(Ian)Well, Klein ISD has really helped me in a lot of ways.
01:37.6
01:40.1
Particularly in the area of Theatre.
01:40.1
01:45.9
I came in my freshman year and really wanted to excel at it.
01:45.9
01:50.1
And do well with it. But I had many areas to work on.
01:50.1
01:51.4
I still have many areas to work on.
01:51.4
01:56.3
But I wasn't that strong of a singer and with the acting on stage...
01:56.3
01:58.6
...that needed some work too.
01:58.6
02:06.2
And my peers and my teachers were really to walk me through and help me improve in that area.
02:06.2
02:11.8
(Bret) Awesome. Well for those who don't know, Ian is nominated for Best Actor at the Tommy Tune awards.
02:11.8
02:17.1
This very day, we're filming this. And I can tell you though, that you set a goal and you clearly achieved it.
02:17.1
02:19.6
That's incredible. Relentlessly pursuing excellence.
02:19.7
02:20.6
Love that! (Ian) Thank You.
02:20.6
02:22.8
(Bret) The second strand we talked about is Equipped Scholar.
02:22.8
02:29.1
The idea that you're thoroughly prepared for future success by some particular thing.
02:29.1
02:31.1
So as you think about Equipped Scholar, what comes to mind?
02:31.2
02:41.1
(Ian) Yes sir. Well, the district and the whole learning environment, really kind of breeds an attitude and a way of learning...
02:41.1
02:45.1
...that you're always thinking about things that you're pursuing...
02:45.1
02:49.3
in a different light than conventional learners would.
02:49.3
02:53.8
You're able to analyze and examine things in a problem solving manner.
02:53.8
02:56.6
And I think that's really helpful. (Bret) Yeah, there you go.
02:56.6
02:59.2
(Bret) Something for you to take forward. (Ian) Yes, Absolutely.
02:59.2
03:05.0
(Bret)The third strand...and you've already actually touched on this...The idea of a Values-Driven Leader.
03:05.0
03:10.2
We want our learners to be unwaveringly commutted to serving the greater good.
03:10.2
03:14.7
And you've already touched on some of that as you talked about some humility and the fact that...
03:14.7
03:18.9
...it's interdependence. Right? That it's with a whole bunch of folks that you achieved your goal.
03:18.9
03:19.9
(Ian) Yes, absolutely.
03:19.9
03:21.2
(Bret) As you think about that Values Driven Leader, what comes to mind?
03:21.2
03:25.4
(Ian) Well I think just at Klein, and I'm sure at all the other schools in the district...
03:25.4
03:32.7
...the environment that's created is one of where everybody's able to connect together and help each other out.
03:32.7
03:37.5
Good values are really put into play.
03:37.5
03:43.2
Encouragement, respect of one another. Being able to help and work with each other.
03:43.2
03:47.9
And be honest and kind and gracious.
03:47.9
03:51.9
(Bret) That's awesome. And we have great families in Klein ISD who certainly help with that as well.
03:51.9
03:53.2
(Ian) Yes. (Bret) That's terrific.
03:53.2
03:55.7
And the last strand is Forever Learner.
03:55.7
03:59.4
An insatiable desire to continue to learn and improve.
03:59.4
04:01.9
So when you think about that, Ian, tell us about it.
04:01.9
04:03.9
(Ian) Well, just my whole experience with Klein...
04:03.9
04:06.4
...going from elementary school to middle school...to high school...
04:06.4
04:10.9
It really has prepared me to move on to the next step. (Bret) Yep.
04:10.9
04:18.1
(Ian) To move on to college and then later on into life.
04:18.1
04:22.7
It's really prepared me step by step with all the tools that I need to be a successful person in the real world.
04:22.7
04:28.6
(Bret) The idea of finding something, then learning more about it, and continuing to move forward. (Ian) Yes sir.
04:28.6
04:32.0
(Bret) Well described. Well Ian thank you for being here to day.
04:32.0
04:34.0
(Ian) Thank you for having me.
04:34.0
04:37.6
(Bret) As everybody can now see, we have a great example of what does a Profile of a Learner look like in Klein ISD.
04:37.6
04:43.3
I'm so excited, as together we work to ensure that every student enters with a promise...
04:43.3
04:47.5
...and exits with a purpose. And we bring this whole notion of Profile of a Learner to life.
04:47.5
04:52.3
Next week, I'm excited to dive into the Klein ISD Profile of a Leader.
04:52.4
04:56.1
But for now, that's Klein ISD in WAY MORE than 90 Seconds.
