Hi! This is going to be a quick status update video on the CLK.
00:37.9
00:44.7
We put a lot of effort into building this car, but the progress isn't very visible.
00:44.8
00:53.8
We spent about a month worth of work on it but all you're gonna see is that the engine is now installed,
00:53.9
00:57.4
And the suspension is pretty much how it was before and so on.
00:57.5
01:04.5
So I'm going to demonstrate what we've done so far and what the next steps are going to be.
01:04.8
01:08.7
First of all we installed the engine. It was not a big deal,
01:08.8
01:13.0
Because it fit snug into its place with stock engine mounts.
01:13.1
01:17.7
This has been the easiest task that we've done on the car so far.
01:18.8
01:26.6
I said in the previous video that it was wired for a DTA ECU, which we'll convert to MaxxECU,
01:26.7
01:32.2
But we hope that we can use the existing loom and just have to change some connectors and such.
01:32.5
01:38.2
This job is going to get done by Hubdyno for us, so we won't touch the cabling.
01:39.2
01:45.7
We still have to finish some mechanical parts, at the moment the oil cooler is bypassed too,
01:45.8
01:53.3
The fuel system and nothing else is hooked up at the moment. We will quickly finish up these things before sending the car out to get the loom made.
01:53.4
01:59.5
After that we will be ready for the first startup and we'll hear what engine sounds without headers.
01:59.9
02:03.6
Let's take a look at a carVertical report of an SL Merc that was involved in an accident.
02:03.7
02:14.0
It was first registered in 2002 in the USA, and then after lots of usage it got imported into Hungary in 2022, so 20 years later.
02:14.3
02:21.0
Probably already in a damaged state. It has 69k kms in it, so it wasn't used a lot.
02:21.1
02:25.5
And here it says it got damaged in 2021 back in the US.
02:26.6
02:30.7
Let's take a look at the photos, but before that the price! It was imported for $14,000,
02:31.2
02:36.7
And for the last time it was listed for 13,000€ in Hungary. They didn't make a lot of money on the car.
02:37.4
02:39.6
A good little V8 SL500.
02:41.0
02:47.0
Here are the pictures from America, where we can see that the rear left of the car was damaged.
02:47.8
02:50.1
Nothing else really, no airbag got deployed as far as I can see.
02:50.4
02:59.8
And finally from 06.2022, here are pictures with Hungarian dealer plates, the car is in immaculate condition.
03:00.9
03:04.4
And then another group of photos and that's all.
03:04.6

03:11.2
03:14.1
And then what we invested the most work into is the suspension,
03:14.6
03:25.5
Because when I originally presented this car, the front struts were just temporarily put in place as mockups with no final solution.
03:25.8
03:36.4
Since then we completely redesigned the front strut towers, because this suspension is made for the W204 C63 AMG and the two chassis are not compatible.
03:36.6
03:49.6
We had to drill new holes on the tower and we came up with a hybrid solution to mate the tower of a W204 with this car.
03:49.8
03:53.8
There was some welding involved and some fabrication.
03:53.9
04:00.7
This is ready and done, the first suspension is completed mechanically,
04:00.8
04:06.2
We still have some wiring to do and to finish the hydraulic part for the HLS to work.
04:07.0
04:11.2
But this part is going well. The first brakes are also properly installed,
04:11.3
04:18.2
Previously it was temporarily installed, but now it is all measured up and big brakes are properly installed.
04:18.4
04:26.1
This was the biggest progress we've made. The same applies for the rear as well, the rear suspension is mounted in place too.
04:26.5
04:39.7
There we had to do similar changes as in the front. We had to fabricate a top plate for the rear strut as it was completely incompatible with the W204 parts.
04:40.5
04:51.0
We've done that, welded in a plate that matches with the strut. The springs fitted easily, there was no hassle with that.
04:52.3
04:58.6
The suspension was a huge step for us, since we had to do everything custom,
04:58.9
05:09.6
And it takes a lot of them to think about it and to try different solutions, they might not work, then we we have one that works, put that into reality.
05:10.0
05:12.8
We are very happy to be past this part now.
05:13.8
05:17.4
Then we started mounting the gearbox into the car,
05:18.0
05:21.1
I will lift the car now and show you how that looks!
05:28.2
05:31.3
Our transmission is a 5 speed Samsonas sequential gearbox,
05:32.5
05:39.8
It is just mounted there to see if it clears the transmission tunnel and to see the mounting points.
05:39.9
05:42.9
It seems that everything is fine, we won't have many problems with it.
05:43.1
05:48.9
We also started fabricating the gearbox mounting console, this is still only halfway done.
05:49.0
05:57.9
When we're done with it, then we'll continue with the linkage and the spot for the shifter which will come up right here.
05:59.7
06:03.3
So this part is pretty much it,
06:03.4
06:08.2
We paired it up to our bellhouse,
