Hello, Klein ISD community.
00:04.5
00:08.6
Wanted to give a quick update on a couple of things.
00:08.6
00:14.0
I'm standing here at the Klein Multipurpose Center. I'm actually in the room that we used as the kids' play area.
00:14.0
00:15.3
...at one of our shelters.
00:15.3
00:21.8
As you know, there's been a lot of things going on. And we wanted to make sure everybody was in the loop with where we are and where we're going.
00:21.8
00:25.0
Speaking of shelters, we were running a couple of them.
00:25.0
00:28.8
The Klein Multipurpose Center has been used as a shelter at one point.
00:28.8
00:32.0
We had 340 guests who were here.
00:32.0
00:37.2
Then we had an overflow shelter and then just a primary shelter at Klein Oak High School.
00:37.3
00:44.4
Shout out to all the volunteers from the Klein ISD community and from the greater community who helped make that possible.
00:44.4
00:50.4
Donations like all this kids stuff and just anything we asked for, people were here with.
00:50.4
00:55.5
Whether it was helping hands or a plate of cookies, everybody was amazing.
00:55.5
00:58.6
So thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that.
00:58.6
01:06.7
Both those shelters are now closed. So those are no longer taking guests in at this point.
01:06.7
01:11.7
NRG does continue to be open and serve as a regional shelter for Harris County.
01:11.7
01:16.7
So everyone's safe. We made sure everyone had plenty of options to move forward.
01:16.7
01:19.9
Also wanted to let you know in terms of taking care of community.
01:19.9
01:22.8
We're opening 4 community feeding sites.
01:22.8
01:29.8
And those sites are at Klein Intermediate, Wunderlich Intermediate, Mittelstadt Elementary and McDougle Elementary Schools.
01:29.8
01:37.3
Those are open for anybody in the community. We'll be serving hot meals from 10 to 11. And then more hot meals from 4 to 5.
01:37.3
01:41.3
So thank you to our Food Services team who put that together very quickly.
01:41.3
01:44.8
Because we want to be able to support our community in any way that we can.
01:44.8
01:49.0
One of the things folks have been asking about is Lemm Elementary.
01:49.0
01:51.3
You know, that area got an amazing amount of water.
01:51.3
01:55.0
Well, Lemm Elementary took in about 6 to 8 inches of water.
01:55.0
01:57.2
So it's going to be closed for a while...
01:57.2
02:02.2
...as we remediate the school and get it fixed up and completely safe for everybody to come in.
02:02.2
02:11.4
But I'm happy to report that we're going to be able to move the school completely...the folks...because the school is really made up of those good folks...
02:11.4
02:13.6
...are going to move those folks to Klein Cain High School.
02:13.6
02:21.8
So let me pause for just a second to give a huge shout out to Kathy Brown and her whole team at Lemm Elementary, who have been amazing.
02:21.8
02:28.9
Y'all they've been supporting everything you can imagine here in the midst of this disater while there were questions on what's going to happen with the school.
02:28.9
02:32.1
Kathy's been so instrumental in that. So thank you, Kathy.
02:32.1
02:40.1
But also, huge shout out to Nicole Patin and all the Cain Hurricanes for their support in saying, 'Yes, let's go. How can we make this work.'
02:40.1
02:42.9
It's going to be a safe environment for everybody involved.
02:42.9
02:46.8
We're going to make sure that it's a great learning experience for everybody.
02:46.8
02:49.8
Because that's what we're about here in Klein ISD.
02:49.8
02:56.6
And then finally, just wanted to give a general appreciation to everybody in the school district.
02:56.6
03:03.1
I know that folks are still antsy about some things. Like what exact day is school going to start back up.
03:03.1
03:06.2
We'll have information about that before the weekend's up.
03:06.2
03:14.0
Keep an eye out on social media and we'll do our calls and make sure everybody's well communicated whenever a final decision is made.
03:14.0
03:20.1
And I know you want, like we do, to make everything's safe. All the roads are safe for employees to get into work.
03:20.1
03:22.2
Before we make any of those final decisions.
03:22.2
03:28.6
So with all of that said, again, a huge shout out to our community for y'all have done.
03:28.6
03:35.4
The response that we have made collectively. I think collectively we have shown true Klein spirit.
03:35.4
03:37.8
What it means to be Promise2Purpose investors.
03:37.8
03:41.9
Not just for our students, y'all. Promise2Purpose is about our students, yes.
03:41.9
03:44.1
But it's also about our entire community.
03:44.1
03:50.1
And if nothing else, we have shown what Klein ISD is about is EVERYONE entering with a promise...
03:50.1
03:52.7
...and we want to make sure everyone exits with a purpose as well.
03:52.7
03:53.9
So thank you for your support.
03:53.9
03:57.3
Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for our patience and grace as we make some decisions moving forward.
03:57.4
04:01.3
We are all in this together.
04:01.3
04:02.2
And we stand with all of our neighbors who had so much damage.
04:02.3
04:07.1
And we stand prepared to help in any way that we need.
04:07.2
04:09.5
If you have any questions, please let us know.
04:09.5
04:12.0
And we'll update you when we have more information.
04:12.1
04:13.1
Thanks so much.
