At a time when the number of Kovid 19 infected patients in Sri Lanka is increasing rapidly,

Prof. Channa Jayasumana has informed that Sudarshana Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine is being used to treat corona.

So today we are going to talk about the research done by these doctors and professors on this sudarshana Syrup

Sudarshana is a medicine used in Ayurveda for various ailments in India and Sri Lanka since ancient times.

This is used as powder form in Ayurveda. This powder is made according to ancient Ayurveda by adding 53 medicinal plants.

The main drug among these all 53 medicinal plants is Hin Bimkohomba.

This Hin Bimkohomba is present in more than 50% of the Sudarshana Churna. In addition, it contains 53 herbal remedies including thyme, sandalwood, ginger, pepper and licorice.

Previous research in countries such as India has shown that these plants contain Sudarshan powder,

which has the potential to fight bacteria as well as viruses.

Sudarshana powder has been used mainly by Ayurvedic doctors in the past for various ailments.

he use of this powder has been done considering the condition of the patient for any fever caused by any dosha such as Vata, pitta or kapha.

It also acts as an immunosuppressant.

What has really been done in this research is to explain in modern science

how this drug, which has been used for thousands of years, causes those reactions.

the research has been carried out by several professors from the Faculty of Medicine, UOSJP and the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, UOC.

Free radicals, which are excreting product in our body cells, oxidize and destroy cells and weaken the body, causing many diseases.

These molecules have been found to have an effect on heart disease, cancer, and respiratory diseases.

We also need to keep in mind that smoking is a major cause for increase of these free radicals.

In Sri Lanka, research has been conducted primarily on the antioxidant properties of this powder and how it reacts to various febrile conditions.

It has been observed that the antioxidant activity of 14 micrograms of Vitamin E can be done by 0.5 micrograms of Sudarshana powder.

Numerous researches have also found that Sudarshan powder has a high potential to act as an anti-inflammatory drug.
