Hello friends.welcome back.Today let's talk about very special, very beautiful, small compact amazing orchids. The tolumnias. These are so small and cute,u can definitely make some space for them in your homes.Im growing these tolumnias successfuly for about 2yrs now.Arent they amazing.I have 3 in total.Jairak firm pink Dalmatian mounted on this coconut husk.jairak firm orange Bull and flyer yellow nose mounted on this wooden slab using some sphagnum moss.Flyer yellow nose is not in bloom now.But i see 2 spikes here. The blooms look like this.My tolumnia ,esp.this one blooms almost all year round, sending multiple spikes. But things were quite different 3yrs back, when I started growing them.I had completely different concept about them. They are labelled and sold as miniature oncidiums but its requirements are quite different from oncidiums.Infact I would say they prefer more vanda like care..they were called equitant oncidiums previously but now they have their own personal group.i have them mounted on Coconut husk or wooden slab,as roots get plenty of air circulation and dry in between waterings.u can pot them in small pot s too.just make sure the media is well draining Chunky ,like charcoal, bark, brick etc ,so that it dries out fast. These little ones unlike oncidiums, they like very bright light.infact they don't mind morning or late afternoon direct sunlight.A good indicator to say whether tolumnias are getting adequate light or not is the colour of the leaves.if the leaves develop this purplish tinge then that means the light is sufficient.my tolumnias they stay in the balcony where they receive morning and afternoon direct sunlight.and very bright light throughout the day.I have just bought them inside to film this video because it's really bright outside,I'm not able to record outside.so I have brought them inside to take this video.I water them once daily by spraying thoroughly.on hotter days twice daily.I personally don't feel the need to soak the mounts once a day or every couple of days because the climate here overall is hot and humid.so I don't feel the necessity to soak my mounts.i spray them like my other mounted orchids and seem to be likiing it. If u have potted ones ,just run water through the pots twice or thrice every week. The basic thing that we should always keep in our mind is to let the roots dry out inbetween watering .They don't like to stay moist for too long.they like to dry out inbetween waterings.Coming to feetilizer s,they are not picky about feetilizer s.Be it organic or inorganic it's totally upto u.I feed mine organic fertilizers , liquid seaweed extract and epsom salt every 15-20 days. All year round and occassionally banana peel feetilizer or crushed egg shell feetilizer .whichever whenever is available.Tnere is absolutely no harm in giving organic fertilizers.they are quite safe .even if given in excess they don't cause an leaf or root tip burn.so to summarise tolumnias they like bright bright light.Airy media or mount whichever is suitable for you.and the roots they need to dry out between the waterings and they need some or the other form of feed be it organic or inorganic. And yes don't cut the spikes once they are done blooming because like Phalaenopsis orchids they can also produce secondary spikes from these tiny nodes.so that's almost everything about tolumnia care.Hope you liked this video.please like ,share and subscribe to my channel to show your support. Thanks for watching Bbyee..
